3. The medieval Poles. Who were they, how did they think of themselves?
The pretext for the discussion will be the publication of the book “Definiowanie polskości – okres staropolski”, and the starting point will be the articles on the Middle Ages included in it. The discussion, led by the editor (M. Gniadek-Zieliński), will be attended by the authors (S. Rosik, W. Drelicharz), the reviewer (A. Pleszczyński), and invited guests (S. Gawlas, P. Żmudzki). The book is devoted to ideological constructs (intellectual projections of Poles), which will be the main focus of the discussion. However, we will also try to relate them to reality, seeking answers to the questions: Where did these concepts of Poles come from? Did they influence the future, and how? Among the topics discussed will be the problem of the perception of Poles by others and of those "others" by Poles. The discussion is carried out as part of the project “Polskość - dziesięć wieków definiowania narodu” (Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education grant Nauka dla Społeczeństwa II).
